Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

Before I came out into early transition I loved shaving & found it relaxing.

But now, when I shave there's a moment when I've finished where I look to myself exactly as I used to look, where all I can see in the mirror is exactly who I was and might've been. Then I come back to myself.

Normally I catch just glimpses, not always when I'm dysphoric, of pieces of who I was but when I shave I see an entire picture and it always kills me a little.

@deme I totally hear you on this. I epilated for the first time on the weekend and I still don't have hair and it's incredible... And it's like, yeah, I want this now. I'm currently looking into laser for my face, even if I continue to present as non-bonary, not having that moment of dysphoria when I shave my face every morning seems like it's worth the pain and couple hundred bucks...

@andi this is increasingly where I'm at -- like, the fact I sometimes like my facial hair is nothing next to the pain of... Yeah you know

Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@deme Yeah. Tbth I've always hated my facial hair, I tried growing it out one summer and three months of growth was still patchy and gross, and I look at those photos now (one was a visa photo so it's stuck with my oyyyy) and it's like, god, I was never meant to have facial hair... πŸ˜‚

@andi I'll find pics of bearded Deme for you later if you like

@andi @deme Be it proposed: that the fediverse's term for identifying as ace shall henceforth be known as non-bonary. =:)

@porsupah @deme Ahaha wtf autocorrect??? πŸ˜‚

Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@porsupah @deme That is brilliant tho now that I think about it :heart_parrot:

@andi @deme Do you have any tips for face epilation? I usually feel like I'm either being too harsh on my face or like it's not doing anything πŸ˜•

Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@MadestMadness @deme I've not done face, I've heard it makes laser more difficult. I've only done chest and legs.

Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@andi @deme It makes getting hair laser removed more difficult after epilating for a while?

Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@MadestMadness @deme I honestly have no idea, conjecture based on anecdotal evidence

Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@andi @deme I'm going to have to research that... that would be good to know πŸ€”

Re: Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@MadestMadness @andi

Epilating and waxing supposedly make it hard to do laser / electrolysis b/c they damage the roots of the hair follicles...but don't totally destroy/kill them

Re: Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@deme @MadestMadness @andi I've been lasering and while it's been effective at reducing the obvious stubble and making it so I could theoretically actually go outside without shaving, because of how light its getting when it does grow, but I can still feel it and see it and shaving is a necessary evil for that, especially right after the laser session when its all burnt and stuff and looks even darker.

Re: Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@NeoAJ @deme @MadestMadness Hmm... Yeah, I don't know how I'd do. I have medium fair skin with brown facial hair, apparently that might not work very well... 😞

Re: Selfies; ec; Transition Feels; Shaving

@andi @deme @MadestMadness My hair is weird, in that it will look light in one angle, which is really hard to laser, and then dark in another. It's definitely having an effect, but it's hard to tell if it will be able to get most of it off. Whatever doesn't come off, I'll have to get done with electro.
