PSA: Responsible drug use

First off: fuck the drug war. We all know it's bullshit. This isn't written from an abstinence perspective. People gonna do what they do.

PSA: Responsible drug use

Secondly: realise that a vast majority of people around you think the drug war is bullshit. The affordances you have in society towards openly doing drugs is entirely dependent upon preconceived biases like race and gender, plus on top of that you estimate what proportion of a population around you doesn't give a shit about the drug war (segmented upon type of drug; people are more lenient towards cannabis than meth, for hopefully obvious reasons).

All of this has different weightings when someone's job is to enforce drug war bullshit. The spectrum ranges from health care professional to DEA agent. These are the people you worry about when using drugs.

Club security people fall somewhere in the middle of this spectrum.

This is to say, don't do drugs at clubs, but if you don't, don't be a nuisance.

Say you do long-lasting drugs like LSD or MDMA. I can get wanting to be peaking while inside the venue, but just sayin' that planning so that you arrive at the venue not totally gurning but also not having to worry about an extensive search is a totally zen-like state. Riding dirty will negatively effect any drug-induced state. Save *literally everyone* some drama and just, like, don't?

You're not familiar enough with a particular drug or batch to properly plan a trip out? Uhhh I dunno maybe try it at home with a sober sitter in marginal increments like a fucking adult???? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah venues employ fascist assholes to throw out drug users. It's dumb AF. WE ALL KNOW THIS. But the world takes its moral cues from the idiots in America, and unless we as a planet can take back the UNODC from the goddamn yanks this is simply the state of play.

tl;dr don't make venues have to be assholes by being an asshole with how you consume drugs.

An addendum for my cannabis users:

Hey. How are you? You know I love y'all. And preaching to the choir that anything coming out of those taps is more socially and physically harmful than cannabis. It's fucking bullshit, I know. But let's be real: good shit is Hella stanky and that's a problem. Some day, god willing, we'll all have basically scentless hash vape pens like they do in Washington. Until then though, uh.... I guess go for a long-ass walk if you wanna toke???

@andi on the one hand YES, on the other hand, especially post smoking ban, there’s nothing like that little whiff of weed in a big crowd to give me full on Proustian flashbacks to the Really Good Raves.

(I don’t even particularly like the stuff myself, but people smoking it around me is strongly associated with Being In A Good Place)

@doop Oh absolutely this, 💯.

Vaguely related, I've realised there's a spectrum of how much a neighbourhood smells like weed in London and there's definitely a sweet spot between "literally every square centimetre" and "clearly not a single pot smoker in a half kilometre radius".

PSA: Responsible drug use

@andi if we're getting into London-specific issues, frankly BY FAR my biggest issue with problematic weed use is filtering through traffic on a bike and noticing just how many people seem to think hotboxing on the move is a good idea

PSA: Responsible drug use

@doop Gosh, definitely.

On one hand, I can point to a raft of evidence that indicates stoned driving is marginally better than drunk driving, for whatever that's worth, but on the other hand, like, you're stationary in traffic in London half the time, it's just asking for trouble.
