Except this. Why is Kappa having a resurgence? Why did anyone ever like Kappa in the first place? Did anyone ever like Kappa? Has anyone ever liked Kappa?

@breakfastgolem I thought she was the lady who owned the big mud flaps company, all the trucks where I grew up had Kappa mud flaps. I don't know why.

@andi probably not, but it was Omnipresent and that's all that's needed for nostalgia, i think. it reminds us of a Time

@monsterblue Is that it? Is it all just detached signifiers that lodge in our brain like a TV tuned to a dead channel &c., &c.?
Ridiculous shit from Cyberdog that I want men to buy for me if I become a findomme
@andi yes and no, i think-- echoes, fragments, but not entirely detached. if you were having a particularly awful time in your life when kappa was popular, maybe it would give a bad, slimy feeling rather than a fond one. for other people, it's more like an image that was popping up constantly around times when they *were* happy. either way, none of these things are detached-- they work *because* they're swirled in with so many other memories, like how a piece of background music can evoke the movie moment it accompanied
